[Dempa AEI - Asia Electronics Industry - October 2006]

The author, Yoichi Kobayashi, is Senior Chief Engineer of the Engineering Division of Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd.

With changes in technologies come upgrades in components and parts. NDK introduces a new line of crystal oscillators to meet today's requirements.

Very stable crystal oscillators are present in equipment for optical communications and in mobile communication base stations as well as mobile phones. The equipment undergoes size reduction, capacity enhancement, an increase in transfer rate, a shift to higher radio frequencies, multiplication of functions, and upgrades in features. Accordingly, crystal oscillators these days are smaller, handle higher frequencies, generate less phase noise (lower level jitters), and realize more stable operation.

The following paragraphs will discuss a general overview of the latest trends for optical communications equipment, equipment in mobile communication base stations and mobile phones , especially the required performance of crystal oscillators , as well as the line of crystal oscillators developed by Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd. (NDK) that meet these market requirements.
