Development of the World's Smallest Class OCXO for 5G Base Stations and Data Centers, with +105°C Support : NH7050XA and NH9070XB
Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hiromi Katoh, hereinafter referred to as "NDK") is pleased to announce the development of the world's smallest class (*1) high-precision OCXOs (Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillators) "NH7050XA" and "NH9070XB," which are designed for 5G base stations and data centers. These oscillators are capable of operating in environments up to +105°C.

With the widespread adoption of 5G, the installation of numerous small base stations is being implemented to cover the area and achieve high-speed, high-capacity communication and ultra-low-latency communication. Specifically, for millimeter-wave base stations, the radio signal range is shorter, meaning that even more base stations will be required. These small base stations are typically installed in confined spaces, such as the tops of steel poles outdoors and on rooftops of buildings. As a result, the environmental conditions for stable operation have become even stricter than before, including the need to withstand high temperatures from direct sunlight, as well as vibrations from wind and other factors.
To meet these needs, we developed ASIC (*2) which is required for the circuit of OCXO and achieved miniaturization and high precision by our strongness such as in-house production from growing synthetic quartz crystal to designing and producing crystal units and crystal oscillators.
We have also achieved excellent phase noise performance: -78dBc/Hz at 1Hz, -156dBc/Hz at 1kHz, and -162dBc/Hz at 1MHz (at 20MHz). These results, which significantly impact the quality of wireless communication, are achieved by leveraging the advantages of fundamental oscillation and high-Q oscillators, surpassing the capabilities of MEMS oscillators that use PLL circuits.
Moving forward, NDK will continue to contribute to the realization of a safe, secure, and comfortable society through our crystal devices and crystal-based application products.
