Even when the impact of moisture is recognized in manufacturing environments like dry rooms or during drying and sealing processes, the reality is that it's difficult to grasp its behavior in real-time and quantitatively. In processes where minute changes due to moisture directly affect performance, its importance is even greater.
NDK's real-time process monitor uses QCM technology to quantify moisture content on-site. By detecting trace moisture within processes, it contributes broadly to quality stabilization, determining when processing is complete, and implementing safety measures.

Basic Principle

The QCM (Quartz Crystal Microbalance) sensor utilizes changes in the resonant frequency of a quartz crystal oscillator to detect surface-adhered mass with high precision.

Mechanism of Moisture Detection via Cooling

Cooling the sensor surface causes moisture (vapor) in the surrounding air to condense onto it. When condensed moisture adheres to the sensor surface, the mass increases.
The QCM sensor detects this mass change and measures it as a decrease in frequency. The amount of moisture can be quantitatively measured from the change in frequency.
